Prayer Force One

Someone on the radio was talking about a group that was touring the country on a bus they called, “Prayer Force One.” I really liked that play on words, so I wrote a poem using that phrase.

bible god quotes 482 Be careful for nothing

Prayer Force One

Each Christian has a power that
Beats anything on earth.
This power is available
For free, yet has great worth.
When Peter had been captured and
It seemed sure he would die,
A stronger force than Herod and
His guards was standing by.
I’d say that he had “Prayer Force One”
On standby all night long.
That prayer force won because their God
Was faithful and so strong.
You, too, have access to this power.
Just get down on your knees.
And trust yourself to God above.
He’ll always hear your pleas.
It isn’t words or magic stuff;
It isn’t force of will.
It’s God’s great power that does it all.
And He is our God still.
So all alone or with some friends
Make your own “Prayer Force One.”
And make sure you are praying to
The true prayer force: the Son.

Feel free to print, share or repost anything on this blog. I do ask that you let me know if you use one of my poems on your blog or at your church somehow. It might give me an idea of better ways to spread His words, which I am always looking to do. And of course, always keep the copyright symbol and my name with the poem so I continue to have the right to use them. You may not realize that if something is posted enough times without the copyright notice, I could lose the copyright and then someone else could conceivably file for a copyright and I would no longer be able to use my own poems! It has happened, so please make sure the (c) is always on the poem whenever you repost. Thanks!

The Gospel

The Gospel

Jesus Christ was God made flesh.
He lived and did not sin.
He died for us at Calvary
Our souls to finally win.
Three days and nights, death held Him there
Inside a cold, dark tomb,
But then He rose and lived again;
His great light pierced the gloom.
He drank in full, God’s cup of wrath,
So we would never taste
That bitter draft of judgment, so
I urge you to make haste.
Accept your Savior’s sacrifice
And tell Him you have failed
To honor Him and all His laws.
Admit that He was nailed
To that rough cross for all your sins.
Believe that He forgives.
Ask Him to cleanse you of your guilt.
Say you believe He lives.
Ask for His Holy Spirit to
Come live inside your heart
And thank Him for His mercy, grace,
And for a brand new start.
That’s all you really have to do
To gain salvation now
And start to live a better life.
The Bible shows you how.

New Heart, New Spirit

Sorry for the long delay in posting. This month has been a bit crazy. I hope you’ll find this poem worth the wait. I’ve been running into this passage rom Ezekiel in many contexts lately and tonight, when I prayed and asked what God wanted me to write about today, this is where He sent me.

And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Ezekiel 36:23-27 KJV

We Are Christian

I usually think of parody songs as being funny versions of “real” songs. This isn’t a funny version, but it is a take off of a good oldie, so I’m not sure if it’s technically a parody or what.

Disclaimer: I don’t have any  connection to Helen Reddy or anyone involved in production or copyright/ownership of her hit song, I Am Woman, so I won’t post the words to her song or the music. Google it if you don’t know the song. If you do, sing these words in your head to that tune as you read.

We Are Christian (to the tune of Helen Reddy’s hit, I Am Woman)

Verse 1
We are Christian, hear us roar.
Our God is too big to ignore.
You can see too much, so don’t try to pretend.
‘Cause we’ve heard them all before.
Lay those excuses on the floor.
Jesus died for us and death is at an end!

Chorus
Oh yes, we’re saved, for our Savior bore the pain
Yes, He paid the price and look how much we gained.
If we’re called to, we can do anything!
Our God is strong!
He is invincible!
He is Jesus!

Verse 2
You can bend but never break us,
‘Cause it only serves to make us
More determined to achieve His final goal.
And we’ll come back even stronger
We’re not hopeless any longer
‘Cause we know that Jesus Christ has saved our souls!

Chorus

Verse 3
And as Christians, we will grow
Opposing evil, toe to toe,
As we spread the Gospel all across the lands.
But there is so much love to show
And still so far the Word must go
Until God’s love, my brother understands.

Chorus

Prayer Time

image

A friend at church mentioned making bookmarks with maybe a little poem to remind people to pray every day. Together, we came up with these. On one side is a list of suggested prayer topics. On the other side is this poem and the pledge: I will set my alarm on my phone for the same time every day to stop whatever I’m doing to take a moment to pray.

Feel free to use this idea for yourself or your church.

Prayer Time

Just find a time
In every day
To stop and bow
Your head to pray
For church and for
Your country, too.
The Lord’s Prayer works.
It’s up to you.
Pray for the lost,
How you can serve,
With love and fear,
Without reserve.
Just take some time
To thank the Lord
For His great love:
Our true reward.

You’re No Accident

I heard a podcast where Chuck Missler was talking about what a miracle every baby is. Of course, we all know that, but he was pointing out how Psalm 139 and Jeremiah 1:5 (Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee) are totally accurate in talking about how God forms each baby in a very hands-on way. A cell divides into two identical cells; those divide into two identical cells. But if this continued, you wouldn’t have a person, just a blob of identical cells. God reaches in at some point and changes one of the cells into a bone cell and shapes it to form your spine. He makes another start forming into your kidneys. Same for your hands and brain and heart and lungs. All of the varied organs and parts of your body are formed and shaped and molded by God’s loving hand. A single cell couldn’t make anything on its own but a twin of itself. Only God can make them become all the parts of you. When you look in the mirror and don’t like your hair color or your skin color or your height, please remember that God fashioned you with just those things exactly as they are with His own hands and guided your development before your mother even knew you existed. You are God’s poema, His artwork, His creation, His masterpiece.

119th Psalm – Tau (22nd letter – T)

Time for the final installment on my Psalm 119 project. To recap for any new readers, Psalm 119 was originally written as an acrostic poem with each part starting with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. I wanted to try to see how I could do writing each part starting with the english equivalents. I’m posting the real portion of the Psalm first for comparison purposes. While part of me is sad to leave this project, another part is glad it is complete, so I can touch on other topics. I pray this has been as fruitful a journey for you as it has been for me.

TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word. My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes. My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

Psalms 119:169-176 KJV

119th Psalm – Shin (21st letter – S)

Time for the next installment on my Psalm 119 project. I’ll post as I go along.

SCHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word. I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee.

Psalms 119:161-168 KJV

119th Psalm – Resh (20th letter – R)

Time for the next installment on my Psalm 119 project. I’ll post as I go along.

RESH. Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law. Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word. Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes. Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments. Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thy testimonies. I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word. Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness. Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

Psalms 119:153-160 KJV

119th Psalm – Qof (19th letter – Q)

Time for the next installment on my Psalm 119 project. I’ll post as I go along.

KOPH. I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes. I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies. I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word. Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word. Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy judgment. They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law. Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth. Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

Psalms 119:145-152 KJV
