New Heart, New Spirit

Sorry for the long delay in posting. This month has been a bit crazy. I hope you’ll find this poem worth the wait. I’ve been running into this passage rom Ezekiel in many contexts lately and tonight, when I prayed and asked what God wanted me to write about today, this is where He sent me.

And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Ezekiel 36:23-27 KJV

New Heart, New Spirit

I’ll sanctify my holy name
Which I have seen profaned.
And all will know that I am Lord,
For this I have ordained.
The world will see me sanctified
In you before their eyes.
They’ll see me high and lifted up
With no more compromise.
I’ll take you from the foreign lands
And gather you to me.
I’ll bring you into your own land
Where you will worship free.
I’ll sprinkle you with water, clean,
And wash the filth from you.
I’ll take away your idols and
Will cleanse you through and through.
I’ll put in you a brand new heart.
New spirit will I give.
I’ll take away your stony heart
And give you flesh to live.
A heart that’s made of flesh and blood
That holds my Spirit there.
And you will walk my chosen path
And keep my word with prayer.
Oh Lord, these were Your promises
Ezekiel foretold.
And we, Your people, hold to them.
More precious than pure gold.
We beg You now to take these stones
So heavy in our chests,
Replace them all with soft, warm hearts
So we, in You, may rest.

Feel free to print, share or repost anything on this blog. I do ask that you let me know if you use one of my poems on your blog or at your church somehow. It might give me an idea of better ways to spread His words, which I am always looking to do. And of course, always keep the copyright symbol and my name with the poem so I continue to have the right to use them. You may not realize that if something is posted enough times without the copyright notice, I could lose the copyright and then someone else could conceivably file for a copyright and I would no longer be able to use my own poems! It has happened, so please make sure the (c) is always on the poem whenever you repost. Thanks!

God bless,
Denise McKenney
