119th Psalm – Aleph (1st letter – A)

I’m working on a project I’ve had in mind for some time. Not sure how far I’ll get, but I’ll post as I go along. Psalm 119 was originally written as an acrostic poem with each part starting with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. I wanted to try to see how I could do writing each part starting with the english equivalents. I started with Aleph – A and managed to start every line with the letter A. I doubt I’ll be able to do that well with every letter, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m posting the real portion of the Psalm first for comparison purposes.

ALEPH.
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.

Psalm 119 Aleph (1st letter – A)

All the undefiled are blessed,
All those who walk with God.
And blessed are they who keep His Word
And with their hearts applaud.

A good man shuns iniquity
And walks in all God’s ways.
And always keeps His precepts and
All statutes, he obeys.

Ashamed is what I’ll never be;
All Thy commandments keep.
All praise to Thee with upright heart
Awake or when I sleep.

Always I seek to learn Thy ways
And when I have them learned
All I want is, toward me, my God
Almighty’s face to turn.

Feel free to print, share or repost anything on this blog. I do ask that you let me know if you use one of my poems on your blog or at your church somehow. It might give me an idea of better ways to spread His words, which I am always looking to do. And of course, always keep the copyright symbol and my name with the poem so I continue to have the right to use them. You may not realize that if something is posted enough times without the copyright notice, I could lose the copyright and then someone else could conceivably file for a copyright and I would no longer be able to use my own poems! It has happened, so please make sure the (c) is always on the poem whenever you repost. Thanks!

God bless,
Denise McKenney

  1. So, I really like your blog. I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award, and with that, I have to pass my nominations on to 11 other bloggers, you making the cut ;). You can out my post “Justin Liebster” here, http://hearthemusique.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/justin-liebster/ , to find out more on what it is I’m talking about!

Thank you for the nomination. I really appreciate the chance to share God’s words with others. I’m not sure I can fulfill the requirements, however, as I don’t think I’m following that many other blogs. I’ll try to come up with as many as I can when I have time, but I’m preparing for a short trip right now. Again, I really do appreciate the recognition. God bless!

    • Haha any time! I don’t follow many either. I just selected the few that I do. No big deal 🙂

This is a very interesting challenge. The first one is beautiful. God will be with you as you complete the next one.
