Time for the next installment on my Psalm 119 project. To recap for any new readers, Psalm 119 was originally written as an acrostic poem with each part starting with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. I wanted to try to see how I could do writing each part starting with the english equivalents. I’m posting the real portion of the Psalm first for comparison purposes. I’ll post as I go along.

PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments. Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name. Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes. Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

Psalm 119 – Pe (P)

Perfect are all Thy decrees:
My soul doth keep them still.
Portals giving light, Thy words
Simple minds doth fill.

Panting, longing, thirsting so
For Thy commandments sure.
Peer on me with mercy as
Thou do when love is pure.

Prepare my steps to follow Thee
Iniquity can’t rule.
Prevent oppression done by man
That I become no fool.

Precepts from Thy holy lips
Are what I long to learn.
Pools of tears run from my eyes
As from Thy law, they turn.
