The Giant
The giant there in front of you
Which seems to block your path
May storm and rage and threaten you
With awesome, fearsome wrath!
You could look at his anger and
Be fearful of his size.
His confidence could shake you as
You feel the terror rise.
Or you could be like David, who
Knew that Goliath’s girth
Would simply make him fall so hard
Down to the hard-packed earth.
He knew the battle was not won
By force of strength or might,
But by his God, who always stood
With him when he was right.
Goliath had no power when
He fought the King of kings.
For David prayed and trusted as
He loaded up his sling.
His eyes were on his enemy,
But heart set on the Lord.
God honored that and David felt
God’s strength, as out it poured.
He won the victory in God,
Not counting on his skill.
And we must always do the same.
Trust God and do His will.

Feel free to print, share or repost anything on this blog. I do ask that you let me know if you use one of my poems on your blog or at your church somehow. It might give me an idea of better ways to spread His words, which I am always looking to do. And of course, always keep the copyright symbol and my name with the poem so I continue to have the right to use them. You may not realize that if something is posted enough times without the copyright notice, I could lose the copyright and then someone else could conceivably file for a copyright and I would no longer be able to use my own poems! It has happened, so please make sure the © is always on the poem whenever you repost. Thanks!
God bless,
Denise McKenney
I really like the part “eyes were on his enemy…heart set on the Lord.” I am really enjoying your poems again. Thanks so much for posting them.
Yeah, it’s been a while. I have been too busy and muddle-headed to make time to listen to His still, small voice. I’m going to try to make it more of a priority and see what He says about the poetry. Glad you’re enjoying it.
